Internodes 0.7-8.8 (-15?) cm long, 0.4-0.8 (-0.9?) cm wide, becoming gray-green, drying yellowish brown or brown, coarsely sulcate; roots abundant at distal nodes, to ca. 1.0 mm in diameter. LEAVES: Petiole (4.2-) 7.3-15.8 (-18.7) cm long, P/L= (0.42-) 0.46-0.70 (-0.78+), bright green and glossy adaxially, extensively sheathed, the sheath broadly spreading (ca. 1.6-2.8 cm wide in life) and somewhat curvaceous with one or both margins sometimes resolute, the free portion pro- longed by 1.0-5.0 mm; unsheathed portion of petiole obsolete or to ca. 0.35 cm long, slightly sulcate above. Lamina (9.3-) 13.5-24.8 (-28.7) cm long, (4.5-) 4.8-14.2 (-17.4) cm wide, L/W= 1.65-2.66 (-3.04), IQI= 1-6 (-10), subcoriaceous to coriaceous, matte to weakly glossy or satiny to velvety above, matte below, moderately bicolored, broadly lanceolate or elliptic to ovate or broadly ovate (widest near or below the middle), gradually to ± abruptly short- to long-acuminate apically (the acumen ca. (0.5-) 0.8-1.4 (-1.7) cm long), cuneate or broadly cuneate to rounded or (rarely) truncate or shallowly subcordate basally, gently undulate marginally; midrib sulcate above, convex below; primary lateral veins 4-6 (-7) per side, 0.3- 5.5 cm apart, weakly sunken above, convex below, with interprimaries at least sometimes visible; minor veins distinct below; abaxial laminar surface drying uniformly and moderately to densely granular and ± alveolate, the reticulate veins not visible to visible peripherally; white stitching absent; resin canals not visible to obscurely visible; adaxial surface virtually smooth to uniformly and moderately granular, usually conspicuously alveolate; reticulate veins, white stitching, and resin canals not evident. INFLORESCENCES solitary or paired; cataphylls usually present, 4.7-9.7 cm long, 0.3-0.8 cm wide, lanceolate, 2-keeled; peduncle 2.3-3.8 (-4.8) cm long, P/S=0.38-0.49 (-0.80); spathe at anthesis 6.1-9.7 (-10.0?) cm long, 1.5-3.1 (-3.3?) cm wide, externally glossy, green or medium green, internally glossy and pale green, slightly constricted between blade and inflated, ovoid tube, exceeding the spadix; spathe drying uniformly and densely to very densely granular externally, with white stitching absent or scattered and resin canals not evident (or only at the very base), internally uniformly and densely granular, with longitudinal secretory striations in basal 3/5 to 3/4; acumen of spathe 0.5-0.8 cm long. Stipe of spadix (0.15-) 0.30-0.65 cm long, whitish; spadix 4.7-8.2 cm long, the fertile male portion 0.9-1.0 cm wide, whitish or cream-white; sterile male zone 0.35-0.50 cm long; fertile female portion of spadix 1,35-2.50 (-3.00) cm long (to 3.70+ cm in fruit), F/S=0.28-0.38, 0.70-0.95 (-1.30) cm wide (to 1.40+ cm in fruit), "purplish'' (Steyermark 92122); fertile male flowers, 0.85-1.80 mm long, 0.6-1.3 mm wide, irregularly polygonal, columnar; sterile male flowers (1.4-) 2.0-2.6 mm long, 0.8-1.5 mm wide, narrowly anvil-shaped, drying brown distally, black proximally; female flowers 2.0-2.7 mm long, 0.9-1.3 mm wide, the stylar canals ca. 4-5.
