Philodendron brandii Grayum
SUMMARY
Hemiepiphytic vine. Internodes 1.1-2.5 cm long, 0.45-0.70 cm wide, drying yellowish brown and coarsely sulcate; roots present at distal nodes, to ca. 1.0 mm in diameter. LEAVES: Petiole 6.1-10.0+ cm long, P/L=0.45-0.61, extensively sheathed, the sheath horizontally splayed with the free portion prolonged to ca. 2 mm; unsheathed portion of petiole 0.25-0.40 cm long. Lamina 11.7-16.3 cm long, 3.4-5.2 cm wide, L/W=2.96-3.46, IQI= 1-4, lanceolate to narrowly elliptical (broadest near to slightly below the middle), gradually long-acuminate apically (the acumen 1.0-1.8 cm long), cuneate to rounded basally; primary lateral veins very obscure, ca. 5 per side, ca. 0.2-4.2 cm apart; abaxial laminar surface drying moderately and uniformly low-granular, otherwise virtually featureless; adaxial surface ± uniformly rugulate to low-granular or subalveolate, otherwise virtually featureless. INFLORESCENCES solitary; cataphylls not observed; peduncle 4.0-4.3 cm long, P/S=0.34; spathe at anthesis unknown, in fruit 10.9 cm long, 2.4-2.6 cm wide, green externally; spathe drying uniformly and densely granular with white stitching externally, internally uniformly and densely granular, with longitudinal secretory striations in basal 4/5. Stipe of spadix 0.5 cm long; spadix in fruit 11.9 cm long, the fertile and sterile male portions unknown; fertile female portion of spadix in fruit 5.5 cm long, F/S=0.46, 2.2 cm wide; fertile and sterile male flowers unknown; female flowers unknown. INFRUCTESCENCES: Ripe fruits "amarillo.'' Seeds 0.65-0.85 mm long, 0.20-0.30 mm wide, straight to slightly curved, finely striate with the striae obscurely cancellate, drying medium brown and weakly glossy to semiglossy.
