Philodendron trujilloi G.S.Bunting

Scandent herb up to 5-10 m long, leafy. Stem up to 4 cm thick, internodes 3-4 cm long, hidden by pale brown, fibrous cataphyll remains. New cataphyll thick, 26 cm long. LEAVES: Petiole firm although sappy, subterete, ventrally flattened or longitudinally ridged, upwards laterally compressed and nearly semi-terete, green and pale green interrupted striolate- punctuate, 73-92 cm long and 1.8 cm thick, sheathed for 5.5-8 cm in the lower part; geniculum 2.7-4.6 cm long. Leaf blade reflexed, sub-coriaceous but brittle, nervosa, up to 88-94 cm long and 49-60 cm wide (at the point 9 cm above the base of the midrib), outline ovate or triangular-ovate, acuminate at the apex, more or less deeply cordate at the base; posterior lobes rounded 17-21 cm long, separated by a parabolic semicircular or hippocrepiform sinus, rarely lobes touching each other, or imbricate; margin slightly undulate; adaxially deep green, midrib flat 0.8-1 cm wide and paler green, 9-10 sunken primary lateral veins on each side, ascending at an angle of ca. 50º-65º, arcuate at the margin with one sulcate secondary vein between each pair, tertiary veins sulcate, emerging from the primary veins, 3-4 principal descending veins on each side joined together into short, canaliculate posterior ribs, naked fro 2-2.5 cm in the sinus; abaxially yellowish-green, midrib robust, convex, posterior ribs and principal veins raised, all dark ('obscure') green. INFLORESCENCES in pairs. Peduncle first 9 cm long, finally 20 cm long, green, marked with raised white striae towards the apex. Spathe 13.5-16.5 cm long, tube inflated-ellipsoid in infructescence 6.5-7.4 cm long and 3-4 cm thick, externally green and paler punctuate, blade ivory white, acuminate at apex with a very long cuspid (2-3.2 cm long!) Spadix somewhat shorter than the spathe (0.3-1 cm), subsessile, ca. 14 cm long, female zone 3.6 cm long and 1.7 cm wide; male zone ca. 10.4 cm long, sterile part 1.5 cm thick below, 1.1 cm in diam. above, constricted, fertile zone 1.7 cm thick. Pistillate flowers sub-cylindric, ovary 5-locular, ovules very numerous in each locule, superposed. INFRUCTESCENCE sub-ellipsoid, 6.4 cm long and 3 cm in diameter. Berries sub-cylindric 0.65-0.75 cm long and 0.3 cm in diameter., white.
