Fossil Araceae

The study of Araceae fossils in an exciting and active research area that in recent years has had an important influence, not only on the phylogeny of Araceae but also of the Monocotyledons as a whole.

Dr Georgia L. Hoffman (University of Alberta, Canada), one of the leading paleobotanists specializing in the family Araceae, has compiled an authoritative list of fossils (click on link) which includes those considered to belong to Araceae and some others which have been more doubtfully ascribed to the family. She has kindly provided CATE with a copy of her list in order to make the information more widely available.

Fossil genera and species pages are being added to the CATE site, based on this list.
