Terrestrial or epiphytic climber; internodes up to 1 cm long, 1.0-3.5 cm diam.; cataphylls reddish brown, (6-)9-14(-18) cm long, persisting intact (slightly decomposing into fibers). LEAVES erect; petiole 32-58 cm x ?4-6 mm, Dshaped; geniculum 1.5-2.0 cm x 4-6 mm, drying conspicuously darker than petiole; blades deeply trilobed to 3-7 cm from the base, subcoriaceous, 26-58 x (24-)28-46 cm, dark green above, moderately paler below, semiglossy on both sides, raphides visible on lower surface, base cuneate to hastate; central lobe obovate, 24-54 x 11-36 cm, 4-8 cm across at base, apex cuspidate to acuminate; midrib raised above, rounded, somewhat sunken toward the apex, raised below, angled; primary lateral veins 8-14 per side, straight, sunken above, raised below, departing midrib at 35-45°; tertiary veins visible below; collective veins arising from one of the lowermost pairs of primary lateral veins, 3-7 mm from the margin, sunken above, raised below; all major veins drying darker than surface on the lower surface; lateral lobes falcate, 30-45° from central lobe, 24-45(-55) x 6-11(-21) cm, apex narrowly rounded, inner margin straight, outer margin convex; basal veins ca. 5 pairs, joined for 3-7 cm; posterior ribs slightly curved upward, (45°-)60° from midrib, winged. INFLORESCENCE erect; peduncle reddish, 17-30 cm x 3-5 mm, shorter than petiole; spathe green (pale red), lanceolate, spreading or reflexed, 5-9 x 0.8-2.0 cm, apex long-acuminate, base obtuse, clasping; spadix sessile, green becoming dark red-purple, cylindric to weakly tapered, stout, 5-13 cm x 5-9 mm; 4-6 flowers per principal spiral, rhombic, ca. 3.0 x 2.5 mm, sides straight to weakly sigmoid; tepals velvety, lateral tepals ca. 1.5 mm wide, inner margin rounded, outer margin angled; stamens long-exserted; filaments 4-5 mm long, narrow, translucent; anthers ca. 1.0 x 0.5 mm, thecae oblong, slightly divaricate; pistils weakly emergent; stigma rounded, ca. 0.35 mm across. INFRUCTESCENCE dark purple, up to 26 cm long, up to 1.8 cm diam.; fruits dark purple at apex, paler below, broadly oblong, ca. 4.0 x 3.0-3.5 mm.
