SUMMARY
Stem erect, robust, 3 cm diam.; internodes short; cataphylls lanceolate, finally weathered into rusty fibers. LEAVES: Petiole thickened at the base and short-sheathed, to 7 dm [70 cm] long, mildly unisulcate adaxially, multistriate; geniculum 2-2.5 cm long; blades parchment-like, equalling or overtopping petiole, 1 1/2-2 times longer than wide, cordate-lanceolate, 5-7 dm long, 3.5-4.5 dm [35 - 45 cm] wide; posterior lobes 1/3 as long as anterior, retrorse, obtuse, introrsely convergent; sinus large, semicircular or parabolic; primary lateral veins of the posterior lobes 7-8, coalesced into posterior ribs largely (4-8 cm) naked in the sinus, thicker than the 14-15 primary lateral veins of the anterior lobe; primary lateral veins of the posterior lobes decidedly arcuate toward the margin and merging in it, the 2 interlobar veins and primary lateral veins of the anterior lobe spreading at about a 45 degree angle 2-3 cm apart, joined into a collective vein 2-3 dm from the margin. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle rigid, striate, shorter than petiole; spathe linear-lanceolate, abruptly contracted into a subulate apex, 1-1.5 dm [10 - 15 cm] long, 1.5-3 cm wide, clasping at the base, thinly multi-veined below, green, white-yellowish within, finally becoming green, papery, erect, persistent, 1-1.5 dm [10 - 15 cm] long, 1.5-3 cm wide; spadix flexible, cylindrical, 1-2.5 dm long, 5-10 mm diam., rosy, finally purple, short-stipitate; tepals twice as long as wide, at fructescence 8-10 mm long; ovary oblong. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berry oblong, purple at the apex, orange below.
