SUMMARY
Stem erect, scandent; internodes 1.5-2 cm diam., 5-6 cm long; cataphylls subcoriaceous, 1.2-1.5 dm [12 - 15 cm] long, soon weathered into reticulate fibers. LEAVES: Petiole equalling or overtopping blade, erect, rigid, subcylindrical, short-sheathed at the base, incidentally or scarcely antrorsely sulcate, 5-6.5 dm [50 - 65 cm] long; geniculum thickened, 2-2.5 cm long; blades cartilaginous, shiny, green, paler below, 4.5-6 dm [45 - 60 cm] long, 2-2.5 dm [20 - 25 cm] wide, ovate at the base, deeply cordate, narrowed gradually upward into the long-cuspidate apex; posterior lobes about 1/4 as long as anterior, retrorse, obtuse, connivent; sinus somewhat rounded; primary lateral veins of the posterior lobes 5-6 pairs, joined into largely naked ribs, 3-4 exterior basal veins retrorse, merging in the margin, 2 interior together with 20-25 primary lateral veins confluent into a collective vein close to the margin, these all subparallel, arcuate-spreading at about a 90 degree angle. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle equalling or overtopping petiole, more slender; spathe cartilaginous, linear, clasping at the base, merging at the apex into a subulate cusp, thinly many-veined below, about 1.5 dm [15 cm] long, 1-1.5 cm wide; spadix slender, cylindrical, purple, 1.8-2 dm [18 - 20 cm] long, about 7 mm diam. stipitate 5-7 mm; tepals a little longer than wide; filaments linear, a little overtopping tepals.
