Philodendron acutifolium K.Krause

Stem scandent on tree trunk, terete, thick, covered with a smooth dark brown epidermis. LEAVES: Petiole thick, 15 cm long; blade large, slightly coriaceous, rather glossy, elongate-oblanceolate, the uppermost apex with a narrowly acute acumen almost 3 cm long; From the upper third or quarter towards the base narrowing gradually and longly into a somewhat wedge-shape, the extreme base indistinctly subrounded, 55 cm long, up to 12 cm wide, somewhat unequally-sided, primary lateral veins ca. 20, spreading at an angle of 70-80º from the midrib, ascending arcuately towards the margin, somewhat prominent above, distinctly prominent below. Midrib almost 5 mm wide at the base, strongly attenuating upwards, sunken above, distinctly prominent below. Secondary and tertiary veins numerous, more slender than primary veins, and parallel with them. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle terete, robust, ca. 10 cm long, 5-6 mm thick. Spathe convolute, contracted somewhat above halfway, narrowing above, 9 cm long. Spadix: female zone ellipsoid in fruit, 5-5.5 cm long, male zone subclaviform, narrowly acute upwards, 3-4 cm long. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berry ovoid obtuse (in the preceding specimen, mostly destroyed): seed narrow oblong, pale brown.
