Philodendron basivaginatum K.Krause
SUMMARY
Plant epiphytic. Stem scandent, cortex thin, subpapery, pale brown longitudinally striated, the covering slightly splitting apart. Internodes 12-15 cm long, 7-8 mm thick. LEAF petioles short, moderately robust, flattened above, 4-5 cm long, basal sheath broad, persistent, scarcely 1 cm long, provided with an auriculate apex, blade thinly coriaceous, oblong, 15-17 cm long, 7-7.5 cm wide; apex with thin, cuspidiform acumen, slightly oblique, ca. 1 cm long, with base subacute. Lateral veins numerous, all subequal, running from the midrib in an ascending arc. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle short, terete 2-3 cm long. Spathe convolute, slightly constricted above halfway, narrow above, 5-6 cm long. Spadix (in specimen not yet entirely unfurled) female part of inflorescence cylindric, slightly attenuate above, ca. 3 cm long, nearly 1 cm broad; Male part of inflorescence narrowly clavate, 2.5 cm long (but in mature spadices certainly longer). Pistils prismatic, often tetragonal, truncate at the top. Stigma slightly punctiform, corona impressed.
