Philodendron bipennifolium Schott
SUMMARY
Stem scandent, internodes 8-15 cm long, 6-12 mm thick. LEAVES: Petiole of the lower leaf sheathed up to halfway, petiole of upper leaves terete, 25-35 cm long, 4-8 mm thick. Blade thinly coriaceous, various; lower leaf oblong, slightly cordate at the base, upper leaves panduriform, uppermost leaf hastate-3-5-lobed or 3-5-lobed bipenniform [bipinnate], 20-35 cm long; posterior lobe or segment oblong, separated by a deep, open sinus, 6-10 cm long, middle lobe obtusely triangular, terminal lobe oblong-lanceolate or oblong-elliptic, 8-12 cm long, apex 1-1.5 cm long-cuspidate. Midrib rather thick, posterior rib disappearing towards the apex, shortly denuded in the sinus, 3-4 primary lateral veins on each side of the midrib emerging in the middle lobe, patent; 2-3 ascending in the terminal lobe. INFLORESCENCE: 2-3 peduncles coming from one axil, 4-5 cm long. Spathe dirty, yellowish-white, oblong, acute, 10-12 cm long, convolute, 15-18 cm wide. Spadix sessile; female zone cylindric, 4-5 cm long, 1 cm thick, male zone 5-6 cm long , at the base somewhat thicker than the female zone, attenuate towards the apex, eventually obtuse. Pistils oblong, 2 mm long, 1 mm wide, with a small, orbicular, discoid stigma, 6-7-locular; ovules numerous, affixed to the central placenta from the base to the apex.
