Philodendron brandtianum K.Krause

Stem scandent, rather robust. LEAVES: Petiole slightly slender, semiterete on the upper side, 50 cm long, almost 1 cm thick in the lower part, slightly attenuating upwards, the extreme base narrowly sheathed; Blade slightly coriaceous, outline ovate-oblong, broadly sagittate at the base, anterior lobe ovate, apex shortly acuminate, ca. 30 cm long and almost equally as wide, posterior lobes subovate, rounded, 10 cm long, 12-15 cm wide, posterior ribs denuded for almost 3 cm in the sinus; 2-3 primary lateral veins from the base on each side; 8-9 from the midrib, departing from the midrib at ca. 45º angle, arcuate slightly towards the margin; secondary and tertiary lateral veins several, slender, interjected between the primary veins. INFLORESCENCES: Peduncle short, terete, thick, 2.5 cm long, 8 mm thick. Spathe green externally, internally white or pale purplish towards the base, oblong-lanceolate, with a very acute, slender, cuspidiform acuminate apex, slightly constricted halfway, 12 cm long, convolute, ca. 2 cm in diameter. Spadix shortly stipitate, somewhat shorter than the spathe; female zone cylindric, 2.5 cm long, 1 cm thick; male zone narrow, subclaviform, obtuse, 8 cm long, 1-1.2 cm thick, attenuate at both ends. Pistils subovoid, barely 2 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, stigma orbicular. Male flowers 3-4 androus.
