Philodendron crassum Rendle

Stem short, thick, procumbent. LEAVES: Petiole dense, very thick, swollen, subterete in shape but somewhat concave above with sharp short margins, 20-23 cm long, up to 4.2 cm thick, attenuate upwards, blade 1.6 cm thick in lower part; blade coriaceous, glossy on upper side, elliptic-ovate or subelliptic, apex apiculate, 30-36 cm long, 15-17 cm wide somewhat below halfway, all lateral veins subequal, numerous, dense, ascending towards the margin, spreading at an obtuse angle from the midrib which is moderately wide at the base, quickly disappearing towards the top. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle half the length of the spathe or overtopping. Spathe purple inside at the base, whitish above, suboblong-obtuse, 13 cm long, 4 cm wide. Spadix cylindrical, equal in length to the spathe, female zone 4 cm long, male zone 7.5 cm long, with sterile zone measuring 2.5 cm. Pistil 2 mm long, stigma broadly capitate, many locular. Locules with few ovules. Stamens somewhat longer than ovary.
