Philodendron cuneatum Engl.
SUMMARY
Hemiepiphytic plant, fertile portion of the stem short with rosulate leaves. Roots clasping when young, internodes short, 1-2 cm long, ca. 1.8 cm in diameter, covered by prophyll remains. LEAF: Prophyll whitish green, soon marcescent, membranous, persistent. Petiole 17-48 cm long, 0.5-0.8 cm in diameter, sub-cylindric, yellowish-green, with a distinct geniculum and paler at the apex, flat on the adaxial side to slightly sulcate with rounded margins, rounded abaxially. Leaf blade 59-80 cm long, 13-18 cm wide, oblanceolate, coriaceous, asymmetric towards the base, base truncate to obovate, apex acuminate, upper surface dark green, glossy, lower surface pale green, dull; primary lateral veins 7-11 on both side, impressed on the upper surface and prominent on the lower surface. INFLORESCENCE 2-3 per floral sympodium. Peduncle 3-9 cm long, 0.5-0.9 cm in diameter, pale green. Spathe 9-14.5 cm long, slightly constricted; tube 3-6.5 cm long, 3-4.4 cm in diameter, external surface pale green, extra floral nectaries absent, internal surface whitish, glossy. Blade 6-9 cm long, 2 cm in diameter, external surface pale green, internal surface whitish, glossy. Spadix ca. 8,9 cm long, subsessile; female zone 1.3 cm long, 1.4 cm in diameter, wider at the base; male fertile zone 6.1 cm long, 1.2 cm in diameter, subcylindric, apex acute. Flowers: stamens 3-5 per flower, 1.5 mm long, 1 mm in diameter; Staminodes 2.5 mm long, 1.7 mm in diameter, considerably narrowed towards the base. Gynoecia 2.2-2.5 mm long, subcylindric; ovary 1.5 mm long, 1.25 mm in diameter, narrowed towards the base; locules 6-8 per ovary, absence of mucilaginous substance; ovules 32-40 per locule, hemianatropous, placentation axile; style 0.7-1 mm long, 1.25 mm in diameter, lobed; stigma 1 mm wide, discoid. INFRUCTESCENCE: 5-9 cm long; berry 0.7-0.9 cm long, 0.3-0.5 cm in diameter, yellowish-orange, cylindric to subglobose; seeds 1-1.25 mm long, 0.25 mm in diameter.
