Philodendron devansayeanum L.Linden

Stem short, robust. LEAVES: Petiole elongate, rather robust, terete, 40-65 cm long, 1.5-1.8 cm wide in the lower portion, somewhat attenuating upwards, green or especially new leaves purplish, over the entire length or especially the upper thickened geniculate part, with somewhat raised asperous striations. Young leaves have red blades, adult leaves bright ('laete') green, coriaceous, rather glossy, broadly rounded-ovate-cordate, 50-60 cm long and almost equally wide, anterior lobe broadly ovate, apex acuminate 1.5-2 cm long; posterior lobes rounded, obtuse, ca. 2 times shorter than the anterior lobe, separated by an obtuse sinus. 8-10 primary lateral veins emerging from the midrib at an obtuse angle, ascending slightly curved, much stronger than secondary or tertiary veins; midrib almost 1.5 cm wide at the base, strongly attenuating towards the apex; posterior ribs short, denuded for almost their entire length in the sinus. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle short, robust, 6-9 cm long, 1.2-1.4 cm thick, red or with somewhat raised whitish asperous striations towards the apex. Spathe red on both sides, margin whitish, tube ovoid 5-6 cm long, 3.5 cm wide, blade oblong 8-9 cm long, with an acute cuspidiform acumen 1.5-1.8 cm long. Spadix pale yellowish, shortly obliquely stipitate; female zone cylindric, 5-5.5 cm long, 1.8 cm thick; male zone conoid, 7-8 cm long, conoid, base equally as thick as the female zone, somewhat thickened halfway, strongly attenuate thereafter towards the apex. Pistil ovoid-oblong, measuring 2-3 mm, stigma orbicular, 4-6-locular, locules multiovulate. Male flowers 3-4-androus.
