Philodendron dunstervilleorum G.S.Bunting

Terrestrial herb ca. 1 m high. Stem prostrate, rooting at the nodes, more or less elongate but internodes strongly abbreviated, up to 3 cm in diameter, leafy near apex. Cataphylls ca. 13 cm long, soon drying but persistent. LEAVES: Petiole sub equal to the blade or one and a half times as long, up to 52-66 cm long and 1 cm thick, subterete, canaliculate ventrally, sheathed in the lower part for 12 cm; geniculum up to 6 cm long, purple. Leaf blade coriaceous, rigid, in adult plants elliptic-ovate or ovate, obtuse at base, apex obtuse with an acumen up to 2 cm long (in juvenile plants, often acute at base and apex), 1.9-2.2 times longer than broad, up to 40-70 cm long and 21-31 cm wide, somewhat flat, yellowish- (inner 0.5 mm) and pink-margined (outer 0.5 mm); Adaxially glossy and deep green, midrib convex, flat and 1 cm wide at base, primary lateral veins 7-10 on each side, emerging at an angle of 55º-70º, minor veins all subequal and parallel to the primary veins; Abaxially matte, pale green, midrib thick, convex, yellowish, and sparsely pink spotted, primary lateral veins raised, pale green. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle pale green, rusty-red spotted, up to 18 cm long. Spathe 15 cm long, stained as in the peduncle, tube 9 cm long, and 2.4 cm thick (when dry). Spadix subequal to the spathe, ca. 1 cm thick. Pistillate flowers somewhat attenuating in the upper part of the style, ovary 2-locular, ovules positioned at the top, 9-11 in each locule.
