Philodendron fragile Nadruz & Mayo
SUMMARY
Hemi-epiphytic vine. Stem apex pale green becoming greenish-grey in the mature parts, internodes 1-5 cm long. Prophyll 20 x 5 cm, triangular, pale cream. LEAVES: Petiole 17-27 cm long. Leaf blade 15-37 x 9-24 cm, ovate to triangular, apex acute, base subcordate, distinctly paler on lower surface, chartaceous; anterior division 18-25 x 9-24 cm, 4-5 primary veins per side, interprimary veins evident; posterior divisions 1.7-4 x 11-15.5 cm, acroscopic veins 0-2, basioscopic veins 0-2. INFLORESCENCE: 1-2 per floral sympodium. Spathe c. 11.5 cm long, ovate, slightly constricted, outside greenish, cream on the blade and greenish within the tube, inside greenish-cream becoming pinkish-red towards to the base. Spadix 8.5-13 cm long, male zone 4-5 cm long, cream; male sterile zone 0.6-1.6 cm long, white; female zone 3.5-4.5 cm long, pale green. Flowers: stamens 1.5-2.5 x 1-2 mm, intermediate staminodes 1.5-3 x 1.5-2.5 cm, gynoecium 1.5-2 x 1-1.6 mm, green to pale green; ovary 7-9-locular, ovules 3-5 per locule, placentation sub-basal. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries not seen.
