SUMMARY
Appressed hemiepiphytic climber to 10 m or more, forming a series of several to many rosettes of tightly grouped leaves at intervals on interconnecting and often leafless stems, 30-60 cm apart, the uppermost a flagelliform branch arising from the middle of the rosette; sap yellow; internodes short, 1.0 to 2.5 cm diam., alternating with a series of longer internodes or climbing elongated stems, on rosette plants (less than 1 cm diam. in juvenile stage), dark olive-green, semiglossy with darker short lineations, sometimes somewhat flattened; cataphylls short, unribbed, semiglossy, light green to dark brown, short-red-lineate, persisting intact initially, then deciduous; LEAVES: Petioles 5–14 cm long, (3)7–15 mm diam., subterete, obtusely and narrowly sulcate to obtusely D-shaped, obtusely flattened or sunken adaxially, medium green, sometimes yellowish abaxially, matte; blades oblanceolate to oblong elliptic, (40–91 cm long, 9–17 cm wide, when mature), 3.7–5.9 times longer than wide, strongly to weakly apiculate at apex, narrowly cuneate at base, moderately coriaceous, moderately bicolorous, dark green above and semiglossy, moderately paler, weakly glossy, and may be tinged purplish below, usually drying grey-green to light green above and paler green below, or sometimes a pale brown overall; midrib bluntly- or convex-flattened and concolorous above, drying to a light green or tan above, and usually a pale brown below, medially sulcate toward base above, obtusely angular or thicker and narrowly rounded or convex and paler below, weakly short-lineate, may be tinged purple medially at base; primary lateral veins lacking; minor veins moderately distinct to moderately obscure, becoming very distinct on drying, very numerous, fine and closely spaced; cross-veins weakly visible; INFLORESCENCE 1 per axil; peduncle long, (3) 8–24 cm in length, often longer than spathe, green and curved at apex; spathe 8–13 (16) cm long, constricted above the tube; stiffly erect at anthesis; tube 3.5–6 cm long, red-marron to purple or dark-violet purple outside, pinkish inside, but turning red to dark violet-purple; blade 4–7.5 cm long, ca 5 cm wide when open, creamy white with pink or reddish spots or blotches outside, cream white inside; spadix protruding forward somewhat out of the spathe at anthesis, staminate portion white to cream colored, 4-6.5 cm long, sterile area 0.7–2.7 cm long; pistillate portion yellowish with orange dots, 2.5–6 cm long.
