Philodendron mathewsii Schott

Stem slender, upper internodes 5-10 mm long, 5-6 mm thick. LEAVES: Petiole terete, 10-15 cm long, with a narrow short sheath at the base which is 1.2-1.5 cm long. Blade thinly coriaceous, cordate-oblong-lanceolate, 14-16 cm long, 3.5-4.2 cm wide; posterior lobes short, rounded, obtuse, separated by a broad sinus; anterior lobe gradually narrowing upwards, apex contracted in a slender, 5-10 mm long, cuspid; midrib rather thick, lateral veins all sub equal, at an obtuse angle, spreading upwards near the margin. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncles slender, solitary or in pairs, 3-3.5 cm long. Spathe oblong, 2.5-3 cm long, convolute for the entire length. Spadix subsessile, cylindric, obtuse, 3 cm long, barely 3-4 mm thick; female zone sub-equal in length to the attenuating, conical male zone. Pistils shortly ovoid, 4-locular, stigma small, discoid, sessile; ovules solitary in each locule, affixed by an ascending funcicle to the placenta below halfway up the axis. Male flowers usually tetrandrous.
