Philodendron montanum Engl.
SUMMARY
Stem high up, scandent, upper internodes 4-6 cm long. Cataphylls linear-lanceolate, measuring up to 12 cm. LEAVES: Petiole terete, 25-40 cm long, 6-8 mm thick. Blade coriaceous, deep green, cordate-ovate, 20-26 cm long, almost 20 cm wide; posterior lobes short, 3-4 cm long, 7-8 cm wide, separated by a large sinus; anterior lobe ovate, apex acuminate; 3-4 primary lateral veins on each side spreading retrorsely, upwards near the margin; 5-7 costal veins emerging from the midrib at ca. 45º, ascending slightly arcuately towards the margin, lower veins closer together than upper veins. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle 2.5-3 cm long, almost 1 cm thick. Spathe oblong; tube purplish, 7-8 cm long; blade white, sub-equal in length to the tube, or somewhat shorter. Spadix sessile, cylindric; female zone 4-5 cm long, 1 cm thick; male zone sub-equal in length to the female zone, the base somewhat thicker, attenuating upwards. Pistils shortly ovoid, 1.5 mm long, somewhat attenuate towards the apex, 6-7-locular, ovules affixed near the base by a longer funicle. Stamens compressed, 1.5 mm long and almost equally wide; Staminodes subprismatic.
