Philodendron quinquelobum K.Krause

Plant hemiepiphytic, roots clasping; internodes 1-4 cm long when young and 0.5-0.9 cm long when adult, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, straw-coloured when dry, minusculely rugose. LEAF: Prophyll 8-9.5 cm long, 0.5-0.6 cm in diameter, very light green to yellowish with barely one wing in the apical portion. Petiole 10-23 cm long, 0.2-0.3 cm in diameter, green with short whitish striations, subcylindric-cylindric, purple extrafloral nectaries on the abaxial side; sheath inconspicuous. Leaf blade pinnatilobed, oblong, subcoriaceous, upper side dark green, glossy, lower side light green and glossy. Anterior division 15-23 cm long, 15-18.5 cm wide, base narrowed 5-8 cm wide, primary lateral lobes 1 on each side, primary lateral veins 4-7 on each side, impressed above, also with intermediates. Posterior division 3.5-5.5 cm long, 10-15 wide, lobes without indentations in all leaves; acroscopic primary lateral veins 1-2, basioscopic 2-3. INFLORESCENCE: 2-3 per floral sympodium. Peduncle 2-7 cm long, 0.25-0.55 cm in diameter, green covered with white striations, subcylindric. Spathe 6-11.5 cm long, with red to wine-coloured margins, tube 3-6 cm long, 1.5-2.4 cm in diameter, ovoid, externally apple-green, internally whitish-green, with ferruginous resin lines. Blade 2.8-5.5 cm long, 0.9-1.7 cm in diameter, oblong, apex shortly acuminate, externally yellowish green, internally white without resin lines. Spadix 10.3 cm long, subsessile and deeply decurrent; female zone 4.2 cm long, 0.8 cm in diameter, very light green, cylindric, narrowing towards the base; intermediate sterile male zone 0.8 cm long, 0.7 cm in diameter, white, subcylindric; fertile male zone 5.3 cm long, 0.7 cm in diameter, white, cylindric, apex obtuse, generally secreting ferruginous resin in the basal portion of this zone. Flowers: Stamens 3-4 per flower, 1.25 mm long, 1 mm wide; staminodes 1.5 mm long, ca. 1.1 mm wide; gynoecium 1.5-1.7 mm long, prismatic; ovary 0.7-1 mm long, ca. 0.7 mm wide; locules 6-8 per ovary; ovules 3 per locule, ca. 0.40 mm long, hemianatropous, trichomes on the funicles; placentation axile; style ca. 0.50-0.7 cm long, ca. 0.8 mm wide; stigma 0.7-1 mm wide, discoid. INFRUCTESCENCE: Not seen.
