Philodendron acutatum Schott
SUMMARY
Hemi-epiphytic or epilithic vine. Stem often chestnut coloured, internodes 1-2 cm long. Prophyll 6.5-40 x 0.8-5 cm, narrowly triangular, green to greenish becoming chestnut coloured. LEAVES: Petiole 14-65 cm long. Leaf blade 22.5-56 x 12-28 cm, ovate, ovate-triangular, triangular, sometimes sub-hastate, apex acuminate or cuspidate, base sagittate or cordate or subcordate, subcoriaceous or coriaceous; anterior division 15-39 x 12-30 cm, primary lateral veins 4-8 per side; posterior divisions 7-17 x 5.5-15 cm, acroscopic veins 1-3 per side, basioscopic veins 0-2 per side; basal vein 6-7, with none or rarely 1 free to base; posteriro rib naked for 2-3.5 cm. INFLORESCENCE: 2-3 per floral sympodium; peduncle 2.5-14 cm long. Spathe 8-17 cm long, moderately constricted, green or pale green, red at base within. Spadix 7-15 cm long; male zone 4-8.5 cm long; male sterile zone 0.3-1 cm long; female zone 1.8-6 cm long. Flowers: fertile stamen: 1.5-2.5 x 0.8-1.5 mm, sterile stamen: 1.5-3 x 1-2.5 mm; gynoecium 1.2-2.8 x 0.8-2.5 mm, ovary 6-10-locular, ovules 2-9 per locule, placentation sub-basal.
