Philodendron schottii subsp. talamancae (Araceae)
Coarse, scandent vine or liana (occasional individuals described as terrestrial, e.g., Hammel 4144), climbing to at least 10 m, loosely branching, the branches spreading and to at least 1.5 m long, with the leaves clustered near the tips. LEAVES: Petiole (3.5-) 5.2-18,8 (-24.4) cm long, P/L=(0.25-) 0.33-0.58 (-0.97), the sheath erect to involute or (rarely) horizontally splayed. Lamina (11.7-) 14.2-29.3 (-30.9) cm long, (2.9-) 3.7-12.3 (-18.0) cm wide, L/W=(1.16-) 1.92-4.51 (-6.4), IQI=0-6 (-7), narrowly to broadly (often deltately) lanceolate to narrowly or broadly ovate, rarely narrowly or broadly oblanceolate, oblong or elliptic. INFLORESCENCES: Peduncle 0.6-1.5 (-2.1) cm long, P/S=0.08-0.25; spathe at anthesis (6.8-) 7.4-13.8 (-16,4) cm long; spadix (5.8-) 6.5-12.4 (-14.3) cm long; sterile male zone 0.4-1.2 cm long, often prominently developed, to at least 2.1 cm wide; F/S=(0.22-) 0.25-0.37 (-0.42). INFRUCTESCENCES: Ripe fruits variously described as green (Luteyn 3225), yellow (Stevens 8333), orange (Hammel 17508), or purplish (Sytsma 4026).
Ranges discontinuously from the Uxpanapa region of Veracruz and Oaxaca, Mexico, to east-central Panama, thence distinctly to south- western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador.
Tropical Wet Forest and Premontane Rain Forest life zones, extending more sparingly into Tropical Moist Forest, Premontane Wet Forest, and perhaps Lower Montane Rain Forest.
