Philodendron sonderianum Schott
SUMMARY
Branches, thick, terete, internodes 2-4 cm long. LEAVES: Petiole equal in length to the blade, or somewhat shorter, up to 18 cm long, sheath rather broad separated somewhat below the blade insertion and longly ligule-shaped-elongated, ligular part obtuse, rounded, often exceeding the insertion of the blade. Blade sub-coriaceous elongate-oblong, more rarely elongate-obovate, apex sub-abruptly acute, base suddenly narrowed, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 4.5-6.8 cm wide; primary veins 5-7, slender, running at ca. 40-50º from the midrib, ascending, somewhat thicker than the secondary and tertiary veins. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle short, barely more than 2 cm long. Spathe ovate, ca. 7.5 cm long, tube ovoid, sub-equal in length to the cuspidate-acuminate blade. Spadix shortly stipitate, cylindric, narrow, 6.5 cm long; female zone somewhat shorter than the male zone. Pistils oblong-ovoid, 4-locular, ovules 4-seriate in locules.
