Arophyton pedatum Buchet
SUMMARY
Perennial herb, tuber globose, flattened, 2-4 cm diameter and 1.5-2 cm thick; leaf solitary and simultaneous with inflorescence. LEAVES: Petiole more that 20 cm long, 3-5 mm diameter. Leaf blade pedate, reaching 9 segments, glaucous underneath; segments elliptic, acuminate, sessile, 0.5-1 cm wide at the base, each slightly divergent from the others, shortly decurrent on the rachis; the middle segment is the biggest, ca. 16 x 5-6 cm; 9-12 primary lateral veins on each side; the size of the other segments decreases towards the outside; primary lateral veins of segments inserted at an angle of 50-60º with the medial rib and joining together in a collective vein, 3 mm from the edge of the leaf. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle 28 x 0.25-0.4 cm. Spathe ca. 4 times longer that the spadix, rolled at the base into a tube, ca. 3cm long, 0.7-1 cm diameter; spathe decurrent, attenuating at the apex and tapered to a filiform point, , very elongated, 11-12 cm long, recurved towards the base. Spadix short, ca. 4.5 cm long, without appendix; female and sterile zones cone shaped; male zone subulate, slender, 1.7 cm long, leaving the spathe and recurved; sterile zone 0.4-0.6 cm long; female zone occupying half of the spadix, joined laterally for 1/4 to 1/3 the length of the spathe. Synandriums nearly not separate one from another, tightly covered in thecae, dehiscing via a pore; pistil surrounded up to halfway by a cyathiform synandrodium; ovary globose 2-2.5 x 2.5 mm; ovules subsessile, nearly globose and attenuating towards the apex; style very short, truncate, with a stigma disc-shaped, reaching a nearly the same width. Sterile flowers elliptic, flattened, split in center, 2.5-3 x 1-1.5 mm. INFRUCTESCENCE: fruit unknown.
