SUMMARY
Stem 1.5 m tall, up to 6 - 8 cm thick, internodes 3 - 5 cm long. Cataphylls 10 cm long or more, partly persisting as fibres. LEAVES: Petiole somewhat terete, subequalling the blade, sulcate above, 20-50 cm long. Blade coriaceous, obscurely green, oblong, base subacute, apex somewhat obtuse, 20-40 cm long, 10-20 cm wide, upper lateral veins 1.5-2 cm arising at an angle of ca. 30° above the base, above the middle of the blade situated 0.8-1.5 cm from margin, distinctly prominent on both sides, primary lateral veins 2 on each side, the upper one arising much above the base at an acute angle, running into the apex, joining together more slender, widely spreading lateral veins at a distance from the margin, the lower one arising a little above the lowest quarter of the blade. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle equalling the petiole, 20 cm long. Spathe oblong-lanceolate, acute, greenish brown, spreading, ca. 5 cm long, 1.5 cm wide below, narrowing upwards. Spadix distinctly stipitate, cylindric, 6 cm long, 5 mm thick, stipe 4-5 mm long. Tepals broadish, white below, above becoming violet, cucullate, 2 mm long, 1 mm wide. Stamens broadly linear, filaments a little narrower than petals, thecae oblong, divergent. Ovary oblong-ovoid, crowned with a disciform stigma, nearly 2 mm long, green below, below the discoid stigma marked with a purplish ring. INFRUCTESCENCE unseen.
