SUMMARY
Rhizome vertical, 0.5-0.7 cm. thick, with spreading tuberous roots. Cataphylls 4–5 cm. long, oblong, subacute. LEAVES 1(-2); petiole subterranean, 3.5-8 cm. long; basal sheath well developed, 3-7 cm. long, nearly reaching petiole apex; blade subcircular, shortly and narrowly cordate, 6-21 cm. long, 7-17 cm. broad, adpressed to soil-surface, upper surface dull bluish grey-green with whitish venation, beneath paler and glossier with darker green venation, apex rounded, mucronate, basal lobes very short, ± overlapping, margin whitish-membranous. INFLORESCENCE 1-2, appearing with leaves; base of spathe-tube ± subterranean. Spathe erect, 7-11 cm. long, pale green; tube 2.5-6 cm. long, 0.5-0.8 cm. in diameter, cylindric, hardly or not inflated at base; limb elliptic-lanceolate, 4.5-5.5 cm. long, 1.3-1.7 cm. broad, ± spreading, somewhat thickened, greenish yellow on inner surface, acute-acuminate with twisted subulate cusp. Spadix subequal to or shorter than spathe-tube, 3-4 cm. long; staminate part cylindric, 2.5 cm. long, 0.5 cm. thick, separated from pistillate part by 1-4 mm. long interstice with few sterile flowers or naked; pistillate part hemispherical, 0.4 cm. long, 0.6 cm. broad. Staminate flowers cream-coloured with 3-5 stamens; perigons ± congested, rhomboid-polygonal, margins massively thickened, rugulose; filaments slender; central pistillode subconic, projecting above perigon margins. Pistillate flowers 4-12, spirally-arranged in ± 2 whorls, or forming a single basal whorl; perigon regular, polyhedral, cream-coloured, massively thickened in upper part; ovary subglobose, smooth on upper surface, 2-locular, each locule with 1-2 axile ovules, rarely unilocular with up to 5 free-central ovules; style subcylindric, swelling apically; stigma discoid. INFRUCTESCENSE: Berries subglobose-polyhedral, 6 mm. long, 5-7 mm. broad, upper surface papillose, 1-2-seeded; style-base persistent as blunt apical projection.
