We take pleasure in dedicating this species to Thomas S. Ray (DELS), who recognized it as new during the course of his doctoral research at the La Selva Biological Station in the 1970's. In addition to having contributed significantly to our understanding of Syngonium and Araceae in general, Tom is well respected for his conservation work in the Sarapiqui region.
