SUMMARY
Perennial tuberous herb with a tuber with a period of rest dormancy for several months during the dry season; tuber globose, flattened, 3-6 x 2-4 cm. LEAVES: Leaf solitary leaf, rarely 2-3, appearing simultaneously with the 1-2 inflorescences; petiole 25-50 cm long, reaching 1 cm diameter, cylindric, tainted red; sheath 1-5 cm long; leaf blade largely ovate, cordate at the base, cuspidate at apex, glaucous on upper surface, ± pale green on the under side, pruinose on both sides, Somewhat coriaceous, 15-30 x 12-24 cm, attenuating to a point 2-3 cm long; mid rib thick; 5-7 primary lateral veins each side, of which the lower 2-3 depart from the base of the midrib, joined briefly, 3 collective veins at the leaf's edge, the inner one has a distance of 0.8-1.5 cm from the edge of the leaf, the outer one ca. 2 mm and an average of 4-5 mm from the edge of the leaf, the last 2 of which are weaker. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle 15-30 x 0.3-0.4 cm, red. Spathe elliptic, not narrowed, attenuating to a stretched tapered point, ± cuspid, decurrent along the peduncle, 7-11 x 2.5-5 cm, red inside and outside and in the part containing the male and female or bisexual flowers, white in the upper part outside and inside, the color changes a little from red to white; spathe open during anthesis, closed and dehiscing in the top part in fructescence. Spadix 6-10 cm long; male zone 4-6 x 0.4-0.5 cm; appendix 0.5-1 cm long, orange; female or male or bisexual zone joined laterally with the spathe, 1.5-2 cm long; axis of male and female and bisexual zones, greenish-white-greenish, that the male zone yellow-orange; the male and female zones (and if necessary the bisexual zone) directly superimposed; male flowers progressively more sparse to a short appendix; all the flowers displayed loosely on the spadix. Synandrium with 2 stamens, but, in the upper part, male flowers have one stamen; synandrium 0.5-0.8 x 1-1.5 mm, covered by miniscule papillate thecae inserted at the top, on the outside edge or on the apex of filaments, these last ones ± free and then curved laterally, synandrium in the shape of a hammer viewed laterally; those at the apex of the spadix reduced to one stamen with a filament curved towards the base, thecae inserted at the apex of the filament, dehiscing via a slit; synadriums orange towards the base, more paler or whitish towards the top, thecae yellowish to light brown; 10-15 flowers bisexual nearly only female flowers present; bisexual or female flowers 1-1.2 mm diameter, 1.5 mm long, white greenish; pistil surrounded by a synandrodium with 1-8 thecae; synandrodium covered externally with miniscule papillae, edge of synandrodium verrucose, whitish; edge verrucose between placed with the spaces in bisexual flowers. Ovary shortly attenuateing on a very short style; stigma discoid ca.0.5mm diameter, a little concave in the centre, brownish. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries ellipsoid ca. 6-7 x 3-4 mm with a vestige of a brown style, brown, green-yellowish (at maturity?) Number chromosomes 2n-54
