SUMMARY
Stem shortened; cataphylls about 1-1.5 dm [10 - 15 cm] long. LEAVES: Petiole somewhat equalling half of the blade, broadly canaliculate above, 2-3 dm [20 - 30 cm] long; geniculum about 1 cm long; blades elongate-lanceolate, narrowed gradually toward the apex or apiculate at the highest point, long-cuneate at the base or narrowed, obtuse, 3-6 dm [30 - 60 cm] long, 6-8 cm wide; primary lateral veins numerous, close together, spreading at about a 90 degree angle, in a collective vein along the margin not at all distant from it (1/9-1/10 of the way in from the side), rarely more (1/5 of the way in from the side; [The text does not say that they are "joined" in the collective vein.] INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle a little shorter than the leaf; spathe linear-lanceolate, to 1 dm [10 cm] long; acumen 1-1.5 cm long, clasping at the base, 1/2-1/4 as long as the spadix; spadix stipitate 1-4 cm, almost twice as long as the spathe; flowers small, violetish.
