SUMMARY
Climbing species (2-5 m), branching to many levels; Stem about 2 mm diam., internodes 2-8 cm, sometimes forming a pendent stem, anchor roots 1-2 cm long, distributed along the axis. LEAVES: Petiole 4-8 cm, sheath ca. 2/3 length of the petiole; blade elliptic-obovate, base rounded, apex mucronate or apiculate, long acuminate (1.0-2.5 cm), , 12-17 cm long, 4-8 cm wide, lateral veins ca. 9, secretory canals dark, very numerous, 2-3 mm long. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle 2-5 per article, normally 3; 5-5.5 cm long; Spathe 3-5 cm, spadix 4-5 cm, 6 mm diam., pink-orange; Male zone 2.5-3.5 cm of which 1 cm of sterile flowers, stamens grouped by 4; diam. of a stamen 1mm; Female zone 0.4-1.7 cm; Ovary 2-locular, 3 mm diam., stigma 1.5-2 mm, dark. There is often a space seen between the male zone and the female zone, with some sterile male flowers on the spadix which is very slender at this point. INFRUCTESCENCE: 1-2 seeds per berry, surface of the berry matte, orange, shape globular, 1.5 by 1.0 cm; seeds dark.
