SUMMARY
Plant climbing reaching ca. 3 m; Anchor roots generally at the base of the nodes, short, 1.5-2.5 cm; Stem slender, 1-3 mm when dry; internodes 1-10 cm. LEAVES: Petiole less than or equal to half the blade, canaliculate, 5-12 cm, sheathed to half or 3/4 its length; Sheath broad, spreading form the stem at the base, and ending abruptly in 2 auricles; Blade 9-22.5 (-30) x 3.5-7 (-12) cm, oblong-elliptic to oblanceolate, somewhat assymetric, base acute, decurrent on the petiole, apex acuminate, oblique, acumen narrow, not longer than 2 cm; 5-13 pairs of primary veins, somewhat prominent, running towards the edge and reuniting in an undulating intramarginal vein, the lower pair often ascending; A dense attenuate network of secondary veins and veinlets; Glandular translucent dashes scattered and numerous in the parenchyma, a line on the periphery of the blade; Some occasional circular excressences, very small, on the lower surface of the blade. INFLORESCENCES terminal 1-4; Peduncles shorter than the petioles, 1.5-6 cm; Spathe green, or yellowish, convolute, 2-8 cm, long decurrent on the petiole, slighly consricted towards the base; Spadix often a little exserted, not stipitate; Male flowers white, transforming into an appendix in fruit; Female flowers pink; Ovary ovoid cylindric, unilocular; 1 ovule, campylotropous, basal; Stigma orbicular, concave. INFRUCTESCENCES: Berries obovoid, pointed at the base, or ellipsoid, 10-20 x 5-10 mm, orange to red.
