Anthurium julianii G.S.Bunting
SUMMARY
Suberect or climbing herb up to 3m long. Stem with internodes alternating between 2.5 - 4 cm long and 1 - 1.3 cm long, 2.5 - 5.5 cm thick, covered with the fibrous remains of the cataphylls, with the leaves aggregated towards the stem apex. Young cataphylls coriaceous, up to 25 cm long, rusty red. LEAVES: Petiole subterete, narrowly sulcate adaxially, 43 - 75 cm long, green or reddish-green and punctuate or marked in pale green. Geniculum terete, 2 - 3.3 cm long and 1.2 cm thick. Leaf blade subcoriaceous but fragile, [strongly] veined, more-or-less rugose adaxially, ovate in outline, cordate-sagittate at the base, acuminate at the apex, moderately undulate at the margin, 49 - 76 cm long, 28 - 44 cm wide, unpolished [dull] on both surfaces; posterior lobes rounded, introrse, deeply separated for 12 - 20 cm by a horseshoe-shaped sinus, primary veins ca. 5, curved, joined proximally into a basal rib denuded for 3.5 - 5 cm in the sinus; anterior lobe with a prominent midrib adaxially yellowish and elevated-angled, abaxially greenish-ivory white and convex, primary lateral veins many, arising from the midrib at 45 - 60 deg., joined into a collective vein very close to the margin, finer veins reticulated. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle green, erect at first and later hanging down, 15 - 36 cm long, 0.7 cm thick. Spathe patent or reflexed, coriaceous but fragile, oblong with strongly revolute margins, clasping at the base, caudate at the apex, 10 - 25 (- 31) cm long, 2 - 4.8 (- 7.2) cm wide, intensely rose coloured or red, later paler, glossy adaxially. Spadix stipitate, with the stipe red, 0.7 cm thick, 0.3 - 0.9 (1.5) cm long dorsally and 1.2 - 2.5 cm long ventrally, spadix bright green, 11 - 32 cm long, 1.2 - 1.75 cm thick, smooth, later pale brown, up to 41 cm long and 3 cm thick, tips of pistils very obtuse and exserted beyond the tepals for 0.1 cm. INFRUCTESCENCE: Mature berries unknown.
