SUMMARY
Tuber depressed-globose, 3 × 4–6 cm; petiole 30–70 × 3 cm, smooth, rich dark reddish brown with a thin greyish waxy layer, or greenish red; leaf blade 40–140 cm, rachises winged; leaflets elliptic or elliptic-oblanceolate, 4.5–28 × 2.5–9 cm, acuminate, adaxially deep emerald green with an oily bluish sheen, margin bright reddish purple, abaxially paler with a dark purplish flush towards the margin. Inflorescence solitary, long pedunculate; cataphylls to 30 cm long, brownish purple; peduncle 22–43 × 8–12 mm, smooth, appearance as petiole or paler; spathe elliptic or elliptic-ovate, becoming ovate at staminate anthesis through strong dilation, acute, base convolute, 20–26 × ca 10–18 cm, pale flesh coloured on both sides, or exterior rich reddish brown at pistillate anthesis, base exterior with thin purple veins, base within dark dirty purple, shallowly ridged-verrucate; spadix shorter or slightly longer than spathe, sessile, 14–26 cm long; pistillate flower zone slightly obconical, 1.0–2.3 cm × 7–20 mm, flowers slightly distant or congested; ovaries upper part strongly depressed, 3–4 × ca 2 mm, stipitate, very pale pinkish; stipe 1.0 × 1.5 mm, sunken in spadix-axis; style 1–1.5 × 1–1.5 mm, obconical, very pale pinkish, or dirty greyish with a dirty pinkish hue; stigma disciform, thin, circular in cross-section, pale yellowish, margin often with one shallow notch in the basiscopic margin, surface entire or with a shallow central depression, sometimes surrounded by three small lobes, or with only one isolated shallow lobe next to a moon-shaped shallow depression, surface verruculate, 0.3–0.5 × 1.5–2.0 mm; sterile interstice ca 2–10 mm long, naked but for one or a few shallow cavities with strongly reduced staminal tissue; staminate flower zone obconical, distinctly narrowed to the base, 3.0–5.5 cm × 5–2.3 mm at base, flowers congested, at the base slightly distant, most basal flowers reduced; staminate flowers 1–4(–5)-androus ; stamens light yellow; appendix massive, fusiform-conical, minutely verruculate, subacute, base with some flattened staminodes, 8–18 × 2–3.8 cm, cream. Infructescence cylindrical, to 8 × 4.5 cm, berries distant; fruits broadly lageniform, to 1.5 × 1 cm, ripening bright red.
