Amorphophallus cirrifer Stapf

Tuber elongate, 6–25 × 4–8 cm, not branched. Leaf solitary; petiole smooth, 70–100 cm × 8–15 mm, background colour blackish brown, paler upwards and pale green at the apex, covered by large elliptic, confluent spots, these brown, dirty olive-brown or pale green, often nearly entirely obscuring the background; leaf blade 60–100 cm diam., rachises winged all over; leaflets elliptic-oblong to obovate, apex acute, 6–20 × 4–10 cm, adaxially green, abaxially pale green. Inflorescence solitary, short or moderately long pedunculate; peduncle appearance as petiole, 3–14 cm × 5–8 mm; spathe campanulate, base convolute, depressed-ovoid, separated by a constriction from the limb, apex acute or obtuse, apiculate, margin irregularly undulate, limb horizontal or suberect, 6–15 × 6–13 cm, base within bearing many fleshy, conical or strongly elongate-conical warts, these pointing downwards and sometimes partly confluent forming ridges, limb exterior maroonish and spotted dark green, interior uniformly maroon, exterior base slightly or distinctly glossy pale pink with brown veins, interior more or less irregularly marbled with whitish and spotted with dark purple, veins reddish; spadix sessile, longer than spathe, 10–45 cm long; pistillate flower zone cylindrical, 5–30 × 4–14 mm, flowers congested or distant, mixed with numerous, hair-like staminodes; ovaries consisting of one ovary surrounded near the base by 4–6 staminodes; ovaries globose or slightly ellipsoid, ca 1–1.2 × 1 mm, circular in cross-section, pale green or white with a greenish flush and some irregular purple spotting at the apex; stigma sessile, oval in cross-section, shallowly or deeply bilobed or rarely trilobed, dark brown, grey or pale grey with a purplish flush, 0.5 × 0.8 × 0.5 mm, lobes conical, subacute, surface rugulose; sterile interstice small or nearly absent, consisting of distant staminodial flowers, 4–10 mm long; staminodes ca 1 cm long, base globose (in sterile interstice) or spindle shaped (between pistils), white, sometimes fused with adjacent base, remaining part hair-like, flexuous, purple, staminodial flowers of neuter zone consisting of 5–7 hair-like staminodes as on other parts of the spadix or with intermediate staminodes, consisting of an obconical, ca 0.5 mm long base with reduced thecae, and connectives transformed into a long hair; staminate flower zone cylindrical or slightly obconical, 1–3 cm × 4–14 mm, flowers congested or distant, mixed with scattered, hair-like staminodes; staminate flowers (1–) 3–6-androus and often 1–3 hair-like staminodes in the middle; stamens ca 1 mm long; filaments ca 0.1–0.3 mm long, connate, connective slightly enlarged, purple, often with a longitudinal groove, sometimes incomplete, leaving the opposite pores connected on one side; appendix elongate-conical or the distal half rat-tail-like, acute, suddenly horizontally or less strongly flexed just above the base, upper part also horizontal or bending upwards, base inflated and often strongly laterally compressed, irregularly sulcate, in between with inflated, apparently staminodial ridges, remainder shallowly corrugate but for scattered, long, hair-like staminodes, 8–40 × 1–3.5 cm (base), soon narrowing above base, entirely blackish purple. Infructescence cylindrical, ca 6 × 3 cm; fruit ovoid to subglobose, ca 1 × 1 cm, ripening white.
