The species is dedicated to the W African botanist Aké Assi, who did invaluable research in W Africa.

SUMMARY
Pistillate flowers 6 mm long; ovaries unilocular (pseudomonomeric), 4 x 3 mm; style 0.5−1.5 mm long; stigma distinctly 2(−3)-lobed, 1 x 2 mm.
