Amorphophallus elegans Ridl.
SUMMARY
Tuber globose or subglobose, ca 10 × 7 cm high. Leaf solitary; petiole largely smooth but slightly rugulose at the base, 30–90 × 2 cm at the base, very turgid, background colour dull mid-green with many shades of dark green, the base with additional irregular and partly confluent grey spots and small, raised, whitish greyish dots, the upper part with large and small white spots; leaf blade to ca 100 cm diam., rachises unwinged but for the distal-most parts; leaflets elongate-elliptic or elliptic, long acuminate (acumen to 3 cm long), the basal ones petiolulate, base not decurrent when sessile, 8–22 × 3–6 cm, adaxially dull or moderately glossy green, main veins impressed, abaxially pale green, petiolules 0.5–1 cm long. Inflorescence solitary, long pedunculate; peduncle 50–90 × ca 1.5 cm, mottled grey, green and pink and with scattered pale green spots; spathe erect, elongate triangular, acute, base and limb separated by only a very shallow constriction, ca 8–20 × 5–12 cm, exterior base pale green or greyish green with small dark green or blackish green and whitish spots and pinkish flushes, interior base off-white, with very few, scattered minute warts, sometimes also shallowly furrowed, limb exterior and interior as base but near the margin flushed with dirty green; spadix longer than spathe, sessile, 12–27 cm long; pistillate flower zone cylindrical, 1.5–3 cm × 7–13 mm, flowers congested or slightly distant near the base; ovaries strongly depressed, circular or angular in cross-section, 1–2 × 2–4 mm, green, bi- (rarely uni-) locular; style thick, often slightly obconical, 0.8–1 × 1–1.5 mm, slightly rugulose, bright green; stigma large, depressed, subrectangular in cross-section, sinuous, with a central elongate furrow, surface echinulate, margin with two, opposite, shallow notches, dirty yellow, ca 1 × 2 mm; staminate flower zone cylindrical, 4.5–9 cm × 8–12 mm, flowers congested; staminate flowers 3–5-androus, white; appendix elongate conical, dirty white with a very faint pinkish flush, verruculose, 5–14 cm × 6–12 mm; Fruit unknown.
