SUMMARY
Tuber depressed-globose, 10–17 × 5–12 cm, surface irregular, root scars thickened, annulate, developing few offsets, these rhizomatous, slender or thick, 5–10 × 1.5–4 cm, apex not thickened. Leaf solitary or two on one tuber; petiole 10–130 × 0.5–7 cm, uniformly pale green, or basal part greyish through numerous small spots, or entire petiole reddish brown with numerous small black dots or less numerous, narrowly elliptic whitish spots, otherwise variable, surface echinate-scabrate; leaf blade 10–200 cm diam., highly dissected, all main segments subdichotomous, rachises winged nearly to the base; leaflets broadly elliptic, elliptic or obovate, shortly acuminate, 10–30 × 4–10 cm, margin slightly wavy, main veins on the adaxial surface impressed. Inflorescence solitary, shortly to moderately long pedunculate; cataphylls 2, broadly lanceolate, obtuse, dirty yellowish with numerous, tiny, blackish green spots, largest 5–13 cm long; peduncle partly or entirely subterranean, 1–16 × 7–12 mm, appearance as for petiole; spathe thick, erect, acute, slightly campanulate or nearly cylindrical, ovate or distinctly broader than long, 10–17 × 9–28 cm, for the greater part convolute, only the upper quarter open but sometimes almost convolute to the apex, leaving only a part of the appendix visible or none at all, base very thick, leathery, with a shallow apical constriction, limb margins slightly undulating, exterior base pale green, dull greyish purple, pale yellowish or whitish, with more or less numerous, small, greenish spots or flushes, limb exterior uniformly green or lower part as base, maroonish near the margin, often with scattered, small, dark greenish dots, interior base pale or dark maroon, sometimes middle part yellowish, limb interior pale green or maroon, lower part sometimes cream, pale green with margins flushed purple, or entirely greenish whitish with an occasional, small white spot, base interior densely verrucate, verrucae large or small, flattened or subhemispherical, separated by grooves; spadix shorter than spathe, 6–16 cm, very shortly or more distinctly stipitate; pistillate flower zone cylindrical or slightly conical, 1–3 cm × 8–20 mm, flowers congested; ovaries depressed globose, 2.5–3 × 2 mm, maroon, very thick-walled, abruptly narrowed to the style; style thick, 1.4–2 × 1–1.4 mm, maroon; stigma large, capitate, 2–3-lobed, 1.8–2 × 2–2.5 mm, lobes rounded, surface densely echinate, pale yellow, whitish or dirty maroonish; staminate flower zone cylindrical or obconical, 2–5 × 1–2.3 cm, flowers congested; staminate flowers 2–4-androus; stamens off-white; appendix fusiform-conical or triangular-conical, 1.5–9 × 1.2–7 cm, acute or subacute, base as broad as or broader than staminate flower zone and often truncate, with or without rhombic staminodes separated by deep or shallow fissures, sometimes slightly laterally compressed, smooth, pale yellow, maroonish or ivory white. Fruit elongate, ripening orange.
