SUMMARY
Stem thick, assurgent; lower internodes lacking cataphylls. LEAVES: Petioles terete, plus or minus longer than blades, 2 - 3 dm [20 - 30 cm] long, 3-4 mm diam.; geniculum terete, 2-3 cm long; blades shiny above, pale green below, oblong or ovate-oblong or oblong-ovate, 1.5-3 dm [15 - 30] long, 1-2 [10 - 20] dm wide, narrowed extrorsely in an arcuate line toward the apex, apiculate, barely obtuse or cordate at the base; posterior lobes 2-3 cm long, standing apart at an acute angle; midrib rounded below and above; primary lateral veins about 20 pairs, the lowermost retrorse or spreading horizontally at about a 90 degree angle, the remaining spreading at about a 90 degree angle, slightly straight, joined in a collective vein somewhat far from the margin (1/6-1/7 of the way in from the side). INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle a little longer than petiole, 2-3 dm [20 - 30 cm] long, 2 mm diam.; spathe lanceolate, cuspidate, decurrent at the base, 5-8 cm long, 1.5-1.75 cm wide, reddish; cusp 3 4 mm long; spadix short-stipitate, cylindrical, upright, 1 dm [10 cm] long, a little shorter than spathe; flowers somewhat larger, violetish; anthers yellow; ovary ovoid, 2.5 mm long.
