SUMMARY
Stem hypogeal (growing underground). LEAVES: Petiole four-angled, 2.5-3.5 dm [25 - 35 cm] long, with narrowly winged angles (especially toward the apex), ruddy (red) at the base, a little thickened at the apex; geniculum 2 cm long. Adult (mature) blade 3-4 dm [30 - 40 cm] long and 2-2.5 dm [20 - 25 cm] wide, coriaceous, olive-green with exception of paler basal veins, cordate-ovate; posterior lobes about 1 dm [10 cm] long, 1.25-1.5 dm [12.5 - 15 cm] wide, rounded, sinus narrow, acute; basal veins 4-5 pairs, primary lateral veins 3-4, a little thinner; collective vein arising from 1st basal vein about 1 cm from the margin, or from one of the primary lateral veins (if so the basal veins form a secondary collective vein). INFLORESCENCE: Peduncles 5-6 dm [50 - 60 cm] long, 5-7 mm diam., very narrowly winged adaxially; spathe lanceolate, green or becoming red, finally reflexed, 1.5-2 dm [15 - 20 cm] long, 4 cm wide near the base, narrowed briefly toward the base, narrowly acuminate toward the apex; spadix caudiform, 2-2.5 dm [20 - 25 cm] long, dingy violet, attenuate toward the apex, stipitate 2-3 cm, erect.
