Etymology:
The generic name honors Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler (1844–1930), a German botanist who described many taxa and produced important monographs of the Araceae family. He provided a classification of the Araceae family based on anatomy and shoot organization, and was the first who regarded the phylogenetic relationship between the subfamilies.
