SUMMARY
Stem medium (literally middling, between large and small), erect or briefly scandent; internodes 1-1.5 cm long, 2 cm diam. Cataphylls frequently overtopping internodes, linear-lanceolate, parchment-like, soon weathered into fibers. LEAVES: Petiole subcylindrical, 0.5-1 m long; blades papery, somewhat concolorous, ovate-cordate, posterior lobes obtuse, 1/6-1/8 as long as anterior, sinus acute, contracted at the apex into a linear cusp, 3-5 dm [30 - 50 cm] long, 1.5-2.5 dm [15 - 25 cm] wide; primary lateral veins of posterior lobes 5 , 1-2 of them and 8-20 of anterior lobe decidedly prominent below, joined in a collective vein 3-4 mm from the margin. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle almost equalling the petiole; spathe broadly linear, 8-10 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide, merging in a thread-like, subulate cusp, a little shorter than spadix; spadix short-stipitate, slender, obtuse at the apex, purple, 8 cm long, 4 mm diam.
