Xanthosoma syngoniifolium Rusby
SUMMARY
Geophytic herb, stem tuberous, 2-3 x 2.5-4 cm, covered with a few cormels. Petiole 30-53 x 0.6-0.8 cm, marbled to black-purple at base, sheath 20-27 cm long, reaching up to 113 of petiole. Leaves 2-3, pedatipartite blade, papyraceous, 5-7 lobes, 11-30 x 11-35 cm, central lobe elliptic to obovate, cuneate at base, apex obtuse to shortly cuspidate, 15- 28 x 5-8 cm, 1.9-3.4 times longer than wide, nerves 3-8 per side, arising at an angle of 20-50°, ending in an irregular collective vein, 0.5-1 cm from margin, other folioles equaling 70-85% of main lobe length, 5-15 x 3-5.5 cm. Inflorescence solitary, peduncles 8-32 x 0.4-0.6 cm. Spathe green outside, white with basal purple inside, 10-13.5 cm long, tube 4-5.3 x 2-2.8 cm, blade 7.5-8 x 1.5- 3 cm. Spadix 11 x 1 cm, fertile male portion 6 x 0.7 cm, sterile male portion 2-2.5 x 0.6 cm, female portion 1-2.5 x 0.5-0.7 cm, adnate to the spathe up to half of its length. Synandria 4-5-androus, 2-2.5 x 2-3 mm, synandrodia irregular, gynoecium prismatic, 2-3 x 1-2 mm, style disk absent, conoid style, stigma yellow. Spathe tube absent in fruiting material. Berries greenish, small, 4-5 x 2-3 mm. Seeds long-elliptic, 3 x 1 mm.
