SUMMARY
Herbs geophytic, usually growing on well-drained soils. Stem tuberous, hypogeous, 2 - 2.5 x 3 - 5 cm. Petioles 28 - 71 x 0.3 - 0.8 cm, smooth to minutely papillose, sheath 3 - 5. cm long, 1/10 of the petiole length. Leaf solitary or in pairs, pedate, 7 - 11 leaflets, 15 - 20 x 8 - 33 cm, glabrous adaxially, minutely papillose abaxially, sometimes also papillose marginally, anterior division 18 - 19 x 5 - 11 cm, 1.5 to 3.8 times longer than broad, obovate, late-elliptic or lanceolate, base cuneate, apex acuminate, primary lateral nerves 5 - 7 per side, very hard to distinguish from the interprimaries, arising at an angle of 20 - 60°, joining in a collective nerve 4 - 15 mm from the leaf margin, posterior division with the first pair of lateral folioles measuring as 100 to 120% of the length of the central foliole, gradually becoming smaller, 10 - 23 x 3.5 - 5.5 cm. Inflorescences solitary, peduncles 15 - 16 x 0.3 cm, spathe 9 - 10 cm long, tube 4 - 6 x 2 - 3.5 cm, lamina 4 - 5 x 1.5 - 2 cm; spadix 7 - 9 cm long, fertile male portion 5 x 0.6 cm, sterile male portion 2 x 0.4 cm, female portion 2 x 0.7 cm. Flowers: Synandria prismatic 1 - 2 x 2 - 3 mm, sterile male flowers dimorphic, basal globose, apical elongated, female flowers 2 - 2.5 x 2 - 2.5 mm, with coherent styles, stigma donut shaped, ovary barrel-shaped. Pollen grain shed in tetrads. Berries white, obovate, 5 - 10 x 4 - 6 mm. Seeds dark green to almost black, elliptic to ovoid, 3 - 4 x 2 - 3 mm.
